Mary states that "THESE 13 PAGES OF MARTHA'S JOURNAL HAVE BEEN COPIED FROM ELLA KVIST'S TYPEWRITTEN TRANSCRIPT. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN CHECKED WITH THE ORIGINAL. between Hannah and Andrew. One was the
firstborn named Godfrey.

Spence’s “Aunt Bradshaw”. “Also named
after my Mother.” [Two infants died between Anna Maria and
Martha.] 18 months older than Hannah. Apprenticed
to a millinery and dressmaking establishment of the name of ‘Major’.

being one of his [Neal’s (Abt 1786)] father’s [Godfrey’s (Abt 1760)] sisters

sheet for Godfrey Spence. Conflicting entries: “… he (Neal Spence) met my mother at his
sister’s house, Sophia, married to a man named Buckton” (p2) vs. “one of (Maria
Yeates’) intimate acquaintances was the above named Elizabeth or Mrs.
Buckton, where she met my father who was in the Army.” (p4). There is no “above named Elizabeth ”.
The name Elizabeth
on p4 appears above a name which was
scratched out and appears compatible with “Sophia”. The name Elizabeth will be added as a child of
Godfrey, and the Sophia will be left in place pending further investigation.]

had numbered 23 years in idiocy and died as if going to sleep.” She had been under the care of an Aunt of
Neal Spence, whose husband’s name was Molony.

. service” ultimately serving in the army.

father “married a widow who had children by her first husband and treated the
first wifes children so bad that their relatives had to look after them, more
particularly on the death of my grandfather.”

emigrated. Robert was nursed by a woman
name Gregg, “an uncultivated mind & vulgar habits.” Robert emigrated to America and
later his wife emigrated. Worked in
father’s store with his sister, Martha.
Later, ivory turning business.

Castles’ which was considered the old homestead.” “There was also a sprinkling of Spences in
the Tassie family “besides that of my Grandfather & Grandmother.” [The given name, Susannah, is not mentioned
in the Martha Spence journal.]

Yeates, Andrew: s. Hannah is given as the maternal
grandmother of Martha Spence which would make her the husband of Andrew, but
this conflicts with information on family group sheet from the Ancestral File
and also it differs from a handwritten family group sheet in my possession
which give his wife’s name as Mary Holmes. c. “My mother was one of six
children . . . Samuel, the oldest. . . There were four sons, Samuel, William,
Kendrick and Joshua. Two daughters,
Ellen, and Maria.” [The Ancestral File names the following children: John, Samuel, Elinor, William, Richard, Anne,
Kendrick, Thomas, Joshua, and Maria.]

. lived five years . . . and one of her intimate acquaintances was the above
named Elizabeth or Mrs. Buckton, where she met my father.” [Perhaps Sophia and Elizabeth were
sisters-in-law and living together.]
Four infant sons of “my parents were buried in the burial ground called
Drum Condra, a few miles north of the city.”
Eight “children lived for many years together.”
